Day Ten: Water Is Life

Picture
It is the foundation of healthy communities, eco-systems, and all of nature. It covers 70% of the Earth’s surface and sustains agriculture, forests, civilizations, generates power, and impacts our climate. It’s sheer power cuts canyons through mountains and connects nations. It reminds us that we are also made of water and we have that same life force and abundance within ourselves.

Here are five important lessons we can learn from water:
  1. Go with the flow and choose the path with the least resistance. Water always flows naturally down the path of least resistance. It isn’t afraid to fall over a waterfall or flow down an unknown river. It just flows regardless of what it encounters.
  2. Be flexible. Water is flexible, can take the shape of any container, and can change it’s form based on its environment.
  3. Stillness always resides within. Even when the surface of the ocean is treacherous, if you dive deep enough you will find calm water.
  4. Water is life. We are made of up to 60% water. We have the same vitality,  life force and abundance that water provides within ourselves.
  5. Stay present. “In rivers, the water that you touch is the last of what has passed and the first of that which comes; so with present time.”― Leonardo da Vinci

Meditation: Listen to this meditation: Be Like Water by Samantha Attard

Activity: Get ready to get wet! For today’s activity we want you to experience the different aspects of water and let it surround you. Just being near water can be soothing for your mind and body, but immersing yourself in it takes it a step further. Getting into cool water can improve your immune system with an increase in white blood cells, release endorphins for that “swimmer’s high”, and improve your circulation. If the water is natural, like in a lake, river, or ocean you will also receive the same benefits as when you grounded on day four.

Ideally, if possible, we’d love for you to submerse your entire body in a cool lake, river, or ocean but we know that might not be possible depending on where you live, your swimming abilities, and the time of year. If this is not a possibility, you can substitute taking a quick, 5 minute cool shower or submerging your body in a cool bath.
Safety tips: Do not enter water that is dangerous- whether it’s too cold, too swift, or treacherous. Only enter in an area that is safe. Do not enter the water if you are not an experienced swimmer.

Write in your journal the following:
  1.  What other life lessons have you learned from water in the past?
  2. Do you have any strong emotions associated with water? Did any of them come up while you were in the water?
  3. What can you do to protect the water in your environment?

Share: Share a picture of the water that you got into and share any experience you had in the Facebook group.

Affirmation: Recite the following affirmation out loud- “I am water and therefore I am full of vitality, life force, and abundance.”
