Day Thirteen: Change Your Perspective
We view the world from our limited perspective that is shaped by our life experiences, values, current state of mind, assumptions, and a whole lot of other factors. Our perspective is our own view and is completely different from anyone else’s because we have all lived different lives and had different experiences from each other. It is a limited perspective because we would never be able to experience everything everyone else has experienced. While it might be limited, we are able to always expand our perspectives through new experiences.
Perspective-taking, which we will learn in today’s activity, is a skill in which we are able to take the perspective of someone else, or this case, something else. Nature, unlike us, has an unlimited perspective. It hasn’t been shaped by all of the things, like beliefs and values, that we have been. Nature just is- it’s in a natural state always. Being able to find this natural state and take on nature’s unlimited perspective is a spectacular way for us to expand ourselves while connecting even deeper with the wild.

Meditation: Listen to this meditation- Access the Wisdom of the Trees Around Us by Sam Kahn
Activity: Find a place in nature where you can watch from nature’s perspective.
- Lay down on the ground and look up at the sky like if you were a blade of grass or earthworm.
- Find the highest point in the area you are in. Look down at everything below you like if you were a butterfly or bird.
- Find a tree with large leaves. Place a leaf in front of your face so you are staring at the leaf close up as if you were a caterpillar getting ready to have the leaf as a meal.
- Get down on your hands and knees and take the perspective of a squirrel or fox.
- Find a place and plant your feet so you are unmovable and take on the perspective of a tree.
Write in your journal the following:
- What was your favorite perspective from nature and why?
- Do you feel your perspective is able to expand with new experiences on your journey of life?
- What perspectives may be holding you back or limiting you?
Share: Share a photo of your favorite perspective from nature in the Facebook group.
